The concept for Little Grey Line started with a simple collection of my husband’s work shirts. Before their second life in a thrift store it occurred to me that there was nothing wrong with each shirt other than the fact that they no longer fit properly. To him, each piece had lost its initial usefulness but to me they had not lost their memory.
Though laundered countless times, they still smelled like him. I could close my eyes and picture him in each shirt; the fabric and patterns held significant memories in my mind. I wanted to figure out a way to give them new life. A sustainable, resourceful design solution emerged as a dress for my then two year old daughter, Adeline Grey. Since that first dress, Little Grey Line continues to seek out the unique features of each shirt and incorporate them into one-of-a-kind, treasured childrenswear for boys and girls. Each garment, through its previous life, has a story and one of the personal joys of making each piece is preserving its memory. Each Little Grey Line artifact is crafted by hand and sewn in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jessica Johnson Moore |
